Rotary Club of Sydney Cove prides itself in having worked on a number of health related projects in Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.
The picture at the right is of the maternity ward at Gizo Hospital, Solomon Islands, jointly funded with The Canadian Government. On the ground floor is the pharmacy, also constructed by the Coves, as were the toilet blocks.
Massive disruption followed the earthquake and tsunami of April 2007. The Ngari Nurses’ Aid Station, Solomon Islands, was completed in 2010 by Coves, working alongside Rotarians from Queensland Clubs. The picture on the left shows the building under construction. Pictured on the right are (l to r) Leo Smith, Denis Smith, Rick Vickers, Mike Austin (team leader) and (below) Ted McKeown having handed over the building and ready to go home!
