Rotaract originally began as a Rotary International youth program in 1968 and has now grown into a major Rotary-sponsored organization of over 7,000 clubs spread around the world with more than 170,000 members.
‘Rotaract’ stands for ‘Rotary in Action’. The purpose of Rotaract is to provide an opportunity
• To improve the knowledge and skills of young men and women, assisting them in their personal development
• To assist in caring for various community needs
• To promote interpersonal relationships between all people worldwide through a framework of friendship and service.
To be eligible for membership, prospective members must be 18-30 years of age, show that they are committed to Rotaract, and show that they are of good standing in the community. Rotaracters often join Rotary after reaching Rotaract’s maximum age.
The Sydney City Rotaract Club was chartered in 1991 with our club and three other inner city Rotary clubs as sponsors. In the ensuing years the Rotaract club has undertaken many community and international projects identified by its club members and assisted in sponsoring club projects. Rotaracters have provided valuable assistance to our club in helping at our annual regatta and other community events including street soccer.
Given the age restrictions, Rotaract clubs are always seeking new members to replace those who reach the maximum age.
Our Club has in the past provided mentorship to Rotaracters through attendance at meetings which are held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday evenings of each month. Support is also given through attendance at fund raising functions.
