Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick is a specialist facility for children's health, a paediatric teaching centre and the hub of a network of professionals caring for children throughout Sydney and New South Wales. It provides a comprehensive range of services from the most urgent and essential to the most complex and technologically advanced.
The Hospital which admits 17,000 annually and provides 325,000 occasions of care, is in dire need of additional space to meet the demand on service expansion, increasing admissions and better co-location of specialist facilities in line with best practice. In April 2010, the NSW Government announced the construction of a new Clinical Wing at the Hospital in partnership with the Sydney Children's Hospital Foundation. (SCHF).The new Wing which will address these pressures is currently under construction and scheduled for completion in early 2013 at a cost of $28M.
SCHF, with support from the community, has committed to raise $15M toward the cost of the development, an arrangement that will ensure the new Wing is enhanced with the best equipment and facilities, and that it is completed on time and without compromise.
The Sydney Children's Hospital, being a leading Children's Hospital, is very much focused on the early detection and treatment of disease. Our donation from this year's Regatta and perhaps for the next year or two, will be directed towards the fit-out of the Respiratory Outpatient Unit which is part of the new wing. This Unit will provide improved facilities and treatment of asthma, cystic fibrosis, cancer and various respiratory illnesses in children, from new borns through to adolescents.
Our donation to this Unit will assist in the development of new treatment strategies helping children with respiratory illnesses improve their quality of life. We hope you will agree that this is most worthy of our support.
