The Rotary Charity Regatta is an annual event hosted by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia at Rushcutters Bay, Sydney. The Regatta raises funds for the Sydney Children's Hospital Randwick, Telstra Child Flight, the CYCA Sydney Hobart Yacht Race Safety of Lives at Sea Trusts and other worthy causes.
Celebrating our 16th successive year, the Rotary Charity Regatta has raised in excess of $2,600,000 and remains one of Sydney's largest and most sought after sailing and fundraising events.
Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick is a specialist facility for children's health, a paediatric teaching centre and the hub of a network of professionals caring for children throughout Sydney and New South Wales. It provides a comprehensive range of services from the most urgent and essential to the most complex and technologically advanced.
Proceeds from the 2010 Regatta will be directed to the Diabetes Service at the Hospital, which is in critical need of support for the insulin pump program.
A child aged 1 year diagnosed with diabetes will receive nearly 22,000 injections by age 16 years! Insulin pumps avoid the need for injections by automatically dispensing the appropriate dosage as necessary. These pumps together with the training and support from specialist nurses will make a real difference to the lives of these children and their families.
As the only emergency helicopter retrieval service especially for children and babies in Australia, Telstra Child Flight is proud of the role we play in transporting critically ill and injured boys and girls from regional NSW and ACT to the advanced lifesaving medical care.
Since we began in 1989, Telstra Child Flight has airlifted nearly 7,000 children and babies. Telstra Child Flight is a registered charity. Partially funded by Government, we rely on the generous support of our sponsors and the public to raise the money needed to cover the high costs of our life saving missions which can range between $8,000 and $16,000 each but which are provided free of charge.
"We are delighted to be a beneficiary of the 2010 Rotary Charity Regatta."
